Leave Policy

Guidelines and procedures for leave applications and approvals.

1. Introduction

This Leave Policy outlines the types of leave available to faculty and staff members at Anantha College of Law, Tirupati Campus. The policy ensures fair and consistent treatment while maintaining operational efficiency.

2. Types of Leave

2.1 Casual Leave

All permanent employees are entitled to 12 days of casual leave per calendar year. Casual leave cannot be carried forward to the next year and is subject to the following conditions:

  • Maximum of 3 consecutive days without prior approval
  • Must be applied at least 24 hours in advance except in emergencies
  • Cannot be combined with other types of leave without approval

2.2 Earned Leave

Permanent employees earn 1.5 days of leave per month of service, totaling 18 days per year. Earned leave provisions include:

  • Can be accumulated up to a maximum of 90 days
  • Requires 7 days advance notice for leave exceeding 5 days
  • Can be encashed upon retirement or resignation
  • May be combined with casual leave with prior approval

2.3 Medical Leave

All employees are entitled to 15 days of medical leave per year with the following conditions:

  • Medical certificate required for leave exceeding 3 consecutive days
  • Must be submitted within 48 hours of resuming duty
  • Unused medical leave cannot be carried forward
  • Extended medical leave may be granted with proper documentation

2.4 Maternity Leave

Female employees are entitled to 180 days of maternity leave as per government regulations:

  • Can be availed up to 8 weeks before expected delivery date
  • Medical certificate from registered practitioner required
  • Full salary and benefits maintained during leave period
  • Option to work from home during pre-delivery period with approval

2.5 Paternity Leave

Male employees are entitled to 15 days of paternity leave within 6 months of child's birth:

  • Must be availed within 6 months of child's birth
  • Birth certificate to be submitted
  • Can be taken in one stretch or two separate periods

3. Leave Application Procedure

All leave applications must follow the prescribed procedure:

  1. Submit leave application through the online portal or in prescribed format
  2. Obtain approval from immediate supervisor/Head of Department
  3. For leave exceeding 7 days, approval from Principal required
  4. Emergency leave must be intimated within 24 hours
  5. Supporting documents must be submitted as per leave type requirements

4. Leave Approval Authority

Up to 3 days: Head of Department

4 to 7 days: Principal

More than 7 days: Principal with Management approval

Special circumstances: Management Committee

5. General Provisions

  • Leave cannot be claimed as a matter of right and is subject to institutional requirements
  • Unauthorized absence will result in loss of pay and disciplinary action
  • Leave records are maintained by the HR Department
  • Faculty must ensure adequate coverage for classes during leave period
  • Leave during examination periods requires special approval
  • The institution reserves the right to recall employees from leave in emergencies

6. Special Leave

Special leave may be granted in exceptional circumstances:

  • Bereavement leave: Up to 5 days for immediate family
  • Study leave: For pursuing higher education or research
  • Sabbatical leave: For faculty after 5 years of service
  • Compensatory leave: For working on holidays or beyond duty hours

7. Policy Review

This policy is subject to periodic review and may be amended as per institutional requirements and statutory regulations. All employees will be notified of any changes to the policy.
